Disaster Relief Funding Available for Farms in Seven PA Counties

Harrisburg, PA - Secretary Russell Redding today notified farmland owners in Lackawanna and Wayne counties that they are eligible to receive disaster relief funding from the United States Department of Agriculture. Also eligible are the adjacent counties of Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.

“Pennsylvania farmers who have experienced losses from excessive rainfall can now breathe a sigh of relief thanks to this disaster designation,” said Secretary Redding. “I encourage those in eligible areas to apply for this funding to recoup losses ahead of the next growing season.”

The funding will help with crop losses caused by extended rainfall and flash flooding that occurred from July 2018 through February 2019. It is the result of a Secretarial disaster declaration and can include emergency loans from the federal Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Eligible farmers can apply for loans for up to eight months after a Secretarial disaster declaration, and should contact their local FSA office for assistance.
